On the exterior, both Subaru models have impressive standard features like LED steering responsive headlights, but the 2022 Outback Wilderness comes with exclusive upgrades for off-road capability like raised and reinforced roof rails, an anti-glare hood design, all-terrain tires, extra ground clearance, and Anodized Copper-finish accents. On the inside, both Subaru models have a wealth of technology features to offer, but since the 2022 Outback Wilderness does start out with a few more bells and whistles. The 2022 Ascent comes standard with the STARLINK® 6.5" Multimedia Plus infotainment system, which includes Apple CarPlay™ & Android Auto™ for smartphone integration as well as Bluetooth® audio streaming. The 2022 Outback Wilderness, on the other hand, has those same features standard as part of its STARLINK® 11.6" touchscreen Multimedia Plus system so it has a bigger display as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi. The Subaru Ascent does come standard with Wi-Fi capability on all but the entry-level model.Both Subaru models start out with a 6-speaker sound system for a high-quality sound throughout the cabin.

When it comes to power, the 2022 Outback Wilderness and 2022 Ascent are more similar than different. Both come with a 2.4-liter turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine with an output of 260 horsepower and 277 lb/ft of torque. The Subaru Outback Wilderness and Subaru Ascent also both come with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for greater capability and control. A key difference between the two is that the drivetrain of the Subaru Outback Wilderness has re-tuned gearing for better low-speed climbing on steep terrain. The 2022 Outback Wilderness has a towing capacity at 3,500 lbs. compared to the 2,700 lb. that the 2022 Ascent starts out with. However, when you step above the entry-level Subaru Ascent, you'll be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

One standard safety feature on the 2022 Outback Wilderness is blind spot detection with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert, which is standard on higher trims of the 2022 Ascent but not the entry-level model.
