Interior Features & Options

At the entry-level, both these versatile SUVs come with much the same features and amenities. It's when you start climbing the trim level ladder that you begin to find differences. For a sporty look, the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek offers sport cloth or premium leather upholstery with orange accent stitching. Inside the 2020 Subaru Forester, leather upholstery is available, but in a more understated style without contrast stitching. The 2020 Subaru Forester also has a variety of available options that you can't get on the 2020 Crosstrek, including heated rear seats, reclining rear seatbacks, one-touch folding rear seats and a power liftgate.

Technology & Infotainment

Both the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek and Forester come standard with Subaru STARLINK™ infotainment, powered by a 6.5" touchscreen display. Standard Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ make it simple and convenient to pair your compatible smartphone. That said, the 2020 Subaru Forester comes standard with HD Radio® and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio support. These are available upgrades on the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek.

When it comes to technology, the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek has an ace up its sleeve: the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid! The plug-in hybrid version of the 2020 Crosstrek has the same design as the gasoline-powered Crosstrek with some additional features and the efficiency of a hybrid powertrain. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid can achieve up to 90 MPGe!

Performance & Capability

Thanks to their similar BOXER® engines, both these SUVs will provide a similar behind-the-wheel experience. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek enjoys 152 horsepower and up to 33 MPG. Because it's slightly heavier, the 2020 Subaru Forester gets a slightly bigger engine making 182 horsepower. It'll get up to 33 MPG as well!

If you need your Subaru to whisk you on an off-road adventure, consider features like Hill Descent Control and X-MODE®. Switching into X-MODE® tunes the chassis for superior performance on loose, low-friction surfaces like sand and gravel. These features are available on both the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek and Forester. However, they're not available on the base Forester model. Meanwhile, you can add X-MODE® to the entry-level 2020 Subaru Crosstrek as an optional upgrade.

Award-Winning Safety

Both the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek and Forester lead their segments when it comes to safety -- and they have the industry accolades to prove it. They both got five-star overall safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the 2019 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. And since they both come with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for added poor-weather grip, you can be confident in the rain, snow and ice.

Active Driver Assistance

The 2020 Subaru Forester now comes standard with Subaru EyeSight®. EyeSight® is an advanced suite of driver assistance features that can react automatically to changing traffic conditions. Subaru EyeSight® includes forward collision warning which sounds an alert if a frontal crash is imminent. Automatic emergency braking helps to avoid a crash or turn a major collision into a minor fender-bender. Adaptive cruise control takes the stress out of crowded highway driving.

You can also get Subaru EyeSight® on the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, but it's an available upgrade. You'll also need to choose the available automatic transmission -- Crosstrek models with the standard six-speed manual aren't available with EyeSight®.
